I recommend the Natal DNA Stealth because it’s a proper acoustic kit built for home practice, with mesh heads and low-volume cymbals so you can work on real-kit technique without the usual noise. It’s also compact, so it fits better in smaller rooms while still feeling like a full kit to play. 

It’s great value because it comes as an all-in-one setup (shells with mesh heads, low-volume cymbals, hardware, kick pedal, throne and sticks), so you can get playing straight out of the box. 

And if you ever want to step it up for rehearsals or gigs, it’s designed so you can swap to regular heads and cymbals later, making it a flexible long-term option.

I recommend the Zildjian L80 Low Volume 348 Box Set because it lets you play on real cymbals at home without the usual volume. The perforated design keeps them up to 80% quieter while still responding like proper cymbals, so your technique and control transfer straight onto a full volume kit. 

It’s also a super practical “quiet setup” pack for lessons and noise sensitive homes, covering the core cymbals most players need: 13" hi hats, 14" crash, 18" crash/ride.

Vic Firth 5A sticks are my go to recommendation because they are the most versatile “all rounder” size. They feel comfortable for most hands, work brilliantly across lots of styles (rock, pop, funk, jazz), and give you a great balance of control and power without feeling too heavy or too thin. They are also really consistent from pair to pair, which helps your technique and sound stay predictable as you progress.

The Evans RealFeel RF12G (12") is one of my top practice pad recommendations because it gives you a realistic rebound that’s great for building clean technique, control, and stamina without needing a full kit. The 12" size feels roomy like a drum head, so it’s comfortable for beginners and still useful for advanced players working on rudiments, speed, and dynamics. It’s also quiet, portable, and easy to use anywhere, making it perfect for daily practice at home.

The Alesis Nitro Max is a brilliant first electric drum kit because it feels comfortable to play at home while still giving you loads of room to grow. The quiet mesh pads keep noise down, the 10" dual zone snare helps you learn proper control and dynamics, and the kick pedal makes it feel more like a real kit than the super basic options.
